ATV enthusiasts have a plethora of choices when it comes to bolt-on accessories. From drink holders, to windshields, to stereo systems, to racks, trunks and bumpers, today’s ATVers can find the right accessory for those jaunts along the trail. To help your store learn as much as possible about the latest bolt-ons available, read on for this month’s Market Report.

New from All Rite Products is the Bucket Binder, an ATV bucket, jug and sprayer holder, informed spokesperson Travis Gates. The Bucket Binder comes with a metal bracket attached to the Master Block mounting system and can be attached to any ATV railing, said Gates, who continued by saying, “The high strength nylon straps easily adjust to fit 4-5 gallon buckets, 1-2 gallon weed/garden sprayer and up to 3 gallon water jugs, making the Bucket Binder very versatile.” ATV manufacturers are offering up more accessories and some great hard luggage designs, noted Gates. He added sales are up due to All Rite’s new, innovative ATV products. “A rail display allowing customers to have a hands on comparison helps to show off the quality of the products,” he explained.

“Our newest model is the camo for both the long and short handled drink holders which fit ATVs,” reported 4 Wheeler Cupholder owner Bruce Humphrey. These cupholders feature a durable finish, stainless hardware and a lifetime warranty, he told us, adding, “The 4 Wheeler cupholder makes carrying a drink safer and more convenient.” More people are customizing their rides, he noted, and sales are up due to advertising and the public’s awareness of the company’s cupholders. Dealers should install the 4 Wheeler cupholder on the ATV so the customer can see how they mount, advised Humphrey.

The Jensen JHD910 heavy-duty mini weatherproof AM/FM/WB stereo is the latest from ASA Electronics, divulged spokesperson Michael Padrnos. “The Jensen JHD910 is completely weatherproof and features an AM/FM radio tuner and a front audio auxiliary input that allows users to hook up and play audio devices such as iPods and MP3 players,” he described. The unit also comes with a seven channel NOAA Weatherband tuner and ‘Weather Alert’ feature to allow ATV enthusiasts who are out riding to keep up-to-date with the latest weather patterns, said Padrnos. The system reportedly measures 5 3/16 inches wide by 3 3/8 inches high by 1 7/8 deep, weighs less than two pounds and is sized to fit multiple ATV applications. “Due to the harsh outdoor environments and the uniqueness of ATV applications, standard audio equipment has not been effective or readily available,” he noted, adding, “With the JHD910, we see a shift towards more demand in ATV audio entertainment accessories.” All around sales have been increasing for 2007 and 2008, said Padrnos, who concluded by saying, “In-store displays are excellent and necessary tools for dealers and retailers to use in the selling and promotion of products. Customers oftentimes need to physically see and touch a product, such as our JHD910, to feel confident in their purchase.”

ATVenture Components has developed a new bumper for the Honda Ranger 420, said Marketing Director Skipp Fowler, who explained the company “offers a product that will enhance the style and give greater protection to one’s ATV. Ease of installation, design and protection have always been top priorities for ATVenture Components.” Style is starting to play a bigger role in accessory purchases, noted Fowler. “Accessories cannot only be functional, there must be a wow factor,” he added. “More dealers are registering their dealerships with ATVenture Components for the simple reason that customers are demanding Bison bumpers and that there are absolutely no set-up fees to register with ATVenture,” he stated. Fowler finished by saying, “ATVenture Components makes it easy to offer your clients bolt-on accessories through great profit margins and free drop shipping.”

The ATV stereo waterproof, portable sound system is made of solid fiberglass construction and inlcudes plug-n-play with cigarette plug, to let riders listen to music whenever they want, explained AudioFormz spokesperson Ronnie Cherry. “More variety of bolt-on accessories are now available from a variety of manufacturers,” he told us. Sales are up as ATV sound systems become more popular and visible in general, said Cherry. “Get new items in front of your customers at shows and rallies to help promote them,” he advised.

The liquid caddy beverage holder from KassWinns “attaches virtually anywhere and comes with four different attachments,” said Sales Manager Connor Summers. “The liquid caddy extends down to hold up to a 24 ounce bottle and is neoprene insulated,” he explained. KassWinns’ accessory sales are up over the last year, which he said he believes is because more people own an ATV and are looking to make improvements to their vehicle to incorporate their outdoor needs. “I think the most important thing to keep in mind when selling a bolt-on ATV accessory is pushing quality,” Summers stated, adding, “Too many manufacturers out there offer an inferior product that can not stand up to the use and abuse of the average ATV owner.”

Kimpex spokesperson Marie-Josée Turcotte told us the company now offers two new ATV trunks. The Outback trunk (pictured) comes with a side lid that opens from the rear to the front and a middle storage compartment can hold a 4.7 liter gas container, she described, adding, the trunk also features straps to hold the cover in place. The Techno Plus trunk also comes with a middle storage compartment that can hold a 4.7 liter gas container, she added. “The rear door can be used to store lunches or other items and the armrests protect the compartment located inside the pontoon,” Turcotte told us. It is also said to come with a connector for a rear light LED.

The electric hand guard with mirror is constructed of durable molded polyurethane and reinforced for added protection, described Kolpin Powersports spokesperson Sarah Hudzinski. It features an electronic lighted compass with clock and temperature readout, a round three inch fisheye mirror for wide angle views and includes two hand guards with mounting hardware, she told us. “Hand guards are becoming increasingly popular for trail ride safety,” said Hudzinski, who divulged, Kolpin’s sales of bolt-on accessories are about the same as last year. Dealers should know the features of each product and their benefit as safety equipment for trail riding, she added.

“Our newest bolt-on accessory would be complete body work for the Kawasaki KFX450R,” noted Jeff Lewis, sales manager of Maier Manufacturing. “We offer the stock type replacement body work in a wide array of colors for those looking to customize their vehicle. We also offer a one piece rear fender as well as a hot new racing hood,” he explained. “The coolest thing about the new body work is that it is available in our newest color: the high gloss carbon fiber look and, as always, comes with our one year warranty against breakage,” Lewis said. Maier has seen sales increases in some areas, while others have dropped a little, but overall Lewis said the company is keeping up with last year. “While there are a lot of new vehicles coming out on the market, some people just can’t afford a new ride. Try suggesting they freshen up their current vehicle with new body work,” Lewis advised, adding, “Our new body work has a high gloss finish, is predrilled for mounting and comes with our industry exclusive one year warranty against breakage.”

The new Polaris ATV racks include the MR516 drop rack, the MR500 up rack and the WR516 flat rack and each rack comes with a black textured powder coat finish, noted McDonald ATV. The company said these racks fit all 2003-2007 Polaris Sportsman ATV models with composite racks. “The racks bolt directly to the frame of the ATV – not the composite rack – which makes them extremely sturdy and allows for the full load capacity to be utilized,” explained McDonald. “Polaris dealers should take special note of the newest style of our rack lineup for Polaris ATVs, the MR500, which has the load capacities and functionality of the drop rack, but allows the rider to have full use of the storage compartment at the rear of the ATV,” the company explained.

Oxlite Manufacturing released its latest, the aluminum and steel brush guards for the 2007 ATV models. The company explained these brush guards offer complete coverage of the CV boot joints and their construction allows for longer and more effective protection. Retailers need to know that these products are designed specifically for particular models so getting the right one is imperative, said Oxlite, which added, “ATV brush guards are perfect up sells and truly give customers a great return in value as well as protecting their investment and enjoyment of their ATVs.”

Pac Power Products has introduced an exciting and affordable hydraulic powered angling kit for the Cycle Country plow blade,” explained a company spokesperson. They added, “Now ATV owners can control the full blade angle – left to right – without getting off their ATV.” The powerful, self-contained hydraulic actuator reportedly does heavy lifting and positioning and the kit is said to be equipped with a handlebar mounted rocker switch control. “The Pac Power hydraulic angling kit can be installed in under an hour and comes with all assembly parts,” they explained.

The universal 7/8 inch bar risers from PowerMadd are available in two heights (1 inch and 1.6 inches) and are designed to raise the handlebars only a little bit to offer greater comfort and better riding positioning, described Director of Sales and Marketing Tom Kingsland. “Consumers want quality add-on products at an affordable price,” he noted, adding, sales are up a little from last year as PowerMadd becomes more popular. “The number one way to sell bolt-on products is to display the product on units,” Kingsland said.

The SS-2X series ATV windshields are new from Slipstreamer, informed President Bob Eggerichs. These windshields feature new graphics and the slickest quick-release hardware system the company has ever designed, he explained. Consumers want more, more, more, Eggerichs noted, adding, they want more colors, more features, more styles, etc. to choose from in bolt-on accessories. New products and new accounts have helped Slipstreamer increase sales over the past year, he told us. “It is easier to sell [bolt-on accessories] if they are mounted to a unit,” Eggerichs concluded.

“The Tamarack Tube-It is a revolutionary, quick-release storage tube that mounts off the back edge of the ATV rack, so it uses no rack space,” divulged Director of Global Marketing Richard Carnegie, who continued, “Since it does not use rack space, it is ideal for hunters or farmers who carry feed or kill on the racks.” The quick-release and molded carrying handle means riders can take it off the ATV and put it in their truck, garage, or they can take it with them into the field, he added.

The Warn body armor lineup (pictured on page 8) for ATVs is easy-to-install and offers maximum protection to critical drivetrain parts on the underbody of powersports vehicles, said spokesperson Andy Lilienthal. “All of the hardware is included and the parts fit like they should because they use existing hardware attachment locations whenever possible,” explained Lilienthal, who added, “All Warn body armor is made from rugged .016 inch thick T5052 aluminum with extra reinforcement added where the vehicle needs it the most and the hardware is recessed for extra durability.” According to Warn Product Manager Steve Green, “Consumers are becoming very savvy with their product selection and visit our Web site and forums a lot to research products.” Green told us sales are about the same as last year, but the amount of product on order this year is higher than it was last year. “Quality, reliability and durability matter,” Green explained, adding, “Research the products and offer your customers the best product.”

Properly displaying these products and keeping up-to-date with all of their features and benefits is what most of these bolt-on accessory companies recommend. Talking to your customers about what they like and where they ride can also help you find the product they are looking for. We hope you enjoyed this month’s ATV bolt-on accessories feature and remind you to remember to check out next month’s feature on ramps and winches.
