NC SENATE APPROVES HELMET CHANGES
“Motorcyclists would be required to wear safety helmets that meet
federal standards under a bill narrowly approved by the state Senate,”
informed WRAL.com. The current North Carolina state law requires riders to
wear a helmet type approved by the Division of Motor Vehicles
commissioner, but the law means some riders have little protection for
their heads, the site explained. Sen. Ed Jones, D-Halifax, offered an
amendment to the highway and traffic bill that would require helmets meet
standards by the US Department of Transportation, added www.WRAL.com. The full
bill was reportedly approved 27-22 and will now return to the full House,
where members will decide whether to accept the Senate’s changes. |

of Flathead Power, stated a company spokesperson. President Brett Smith

something we value and we believe the market values.” S&S currently

MOTORCYCLIST FATALITIES UP 5%
“The increase in fatalities among motorcyclists reported by the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) underscores the critical
need for new research into the causes of motorcycle crashes,” reported
the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). The NHTSA released data
stating 4,810 motorcyclists were killed on the nation’s highways during
2006, an increase of 5 percent over 2005, said the AMA, which added, “That
marks the ninth year of increasing deaths after more than a decade of
declining fatalities.” Congress is said to have recently appropriated
funding for a motorcycle crash study, which requires the motorcycle
community to come up with matching funds before the research can begin
and, thanks to a major contribution from the motorcycle industry, through
the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, along with pledges from the AMA and
individual riders, that funding has reportedly been assured. “We look
forward to getting this valuable research that will help save lives on the
nation’s highways,” concluded the AMA. |
